Death Notice: Fr. Ulysse LeBlanc c.s.c.
Father Ulysse LeBlanc, of the Congrégation de Sainte-Croix, passed away on November 13, 2024 at the Foyer St-Thomas in Memramcook. He was the son of Joseph and Delia (Cormier) LeBlanc. He was born in Cocagne on June 7, 1938. He joined the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1958 and studied theology in Montreal from 1959 to 1963. He was ordained a priest in the church of St-Pierre de Cocagne at the same time as his brother Yvon, on 12 December 1962.
In addition to his confreres in Holy Cross, he is survived by his loved ones, his sister Florine and several nieces and nephews. His father and mother predeceased him, as did his sister Stella and his brothers Désiré, Yvon and Aldéric.
His life path showed great flexibility in his ministry as a priest. He taught at Collège St-Joseph and Shediac High School, served as a chaplain in the Canadian Navy and at the Mother House of the Religious of Notre-Dame du Sacré-Coeur. He served as curate and pastor in several parishes in the Archdiocese of Moncton, including Memramcook on several occasions, Pré-d'en-Haut, the Cathedral, Christ-Roi and Notre-Dame de la Paix. He also served in the dioceses of St. John (S.-François de Sales) and Yarmouth (Pubnico).
His pastoral activity extended beyond parish ministry. His interest and expertise in liturgy led him to direct the ALPEC movement for many years and to lead numerous liturgy sessions. His spiritual dynamism led him to participate in the R-Cube movement for young people and Vie Montante for seniors.
As a member of the Congregation of Holy Cross, he was religious superior in Acadia. He took part in two general chapters and councils of the congregation. He also served as an interpreter at international meetings.
His fidelity and faith made him a trustworthy man, capable of understanding the faith journeys and the search for light among Christians of our time. Those who knew him appreciated his respect for others and the delicacy of his pastoral approach. The Lord has blessed us with his presence and his ministry.
The loved ones of the deceased express their gratitude to the staff of Foyer St-Thomas for the quality of their service.
Funeral services have been entrusted to the Maison Funéraire Dupuis of Memramcook. Visitations will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and at Saint-Thomas Church in Memramcook on Thursday, November 21 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11 a.m.
