I regret having to inform you of the death of Father Raymond Desjardins, C.Ss.R.. He died at his residence at the Elsipogtog rectory at the age of 75. We believe he died of a cardiac arrest. It is not possible at this time to provide details related to the funeral due to restrictions imposed to curb the expansion of COVID-19.
Father Raymond arrived in the diocese in the summer of 2015 and was appointed parish priest in the Elsipogtog grouping including the parishes of Saint Anne (Elsipogtog), Saint Bartholomew (Bass River) and Saint Kateri Tekakwitha (Indian Island) and also in the Our Lady of Hope Pastoral Unit including the parishes of Immaculate Conception (Rexton) and Saint Peter (South Branch). Last summer he became priest-assistant in those same parish working with Fr Bill Bernard, the new parish priest.
We wish to extend our sympathies to Fr. Bill Bernard, the Redemptorist Fathers of St. Louis, all members of the parish communities served by Fr. Desjardins, and to his family members. We assure them of our prayers.
