- Palliative Care and the End of Life
We are pleased to offer two sessions concerning palliative care and end of life issues:
On October 19th Pamela Mansfield MD, CCFP (PC), Palliative Care Division Head, Moncton Hospital, Horizon Health Network, and Assistant Professor, Dalhousie University will join us to talk about journeying / accompanying those who live with chronic / terminal illness. Dr. Mansfield will clarify euthanasia and symptom management; speak of the end stages of debilitating illnesses and what that means for making the patient comfortable, which may be different than family expectations; and remind us that palliative care is not only for end of life, and needs to be accessed early. This session takes place at St. Bernard’s Church Hall from 9:30-12:00 noon.
On October 24th B.L. Eileen Dennis, LL.B. a lawyer specializing in family law, wills and trusts, will speak about the legal aspects of end of life issues reminding us of what we need to put in place to ensure legally that our decisions are respected. This session takes place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Location will be confirmed in next week’s bulletin. Pre-registration for one or both sessions is necessary and may be done by contacting Ellen.
